At KandrinWood we firmly believe that the home and the surrounding neighborhood, being the center of a dog's world, is the most logical place for an assessment, The most effective place for your dog to be trained, and key toward unwanted behavior to be corrected. All Training sessions whether in your home or at our facility, will conclude with a written lesson plan outlined for you to follow throughout the week at your home. Your whole family's commitment to the training process is very important to the success of your dog's training. When well trained your dog will have fewer restrictions and enjoy privileges that will make him more content and therefore more pleasing to you and your family.

TRAINING IS A GREAT GIFT IDEA!

If you know a loved one who is getting a puppy for a gift, (or perhaps you are giving a puppy to them as a gift) we have Gift Certificates that you can purchase that will cover all or a portion of their choice of a Training program. Often times puppies are purchased for Christmas gifts and by New Years the puppy is "driving Mom nuts". Family members can go together on a Gift Certificate to help things go smoothly when a new companion is added to the family.

Think outside of the Box, or maybe we should say "crate" for your gift giving this year.

AGGRESSION REHABILITATION AND MANAGEMENT

 * Most aggressive dogs can be Rehabilitated. The nature of the aggression must be determined at an evaluation, after which a targeted training program will be designed to get  your dog's aggression under control. Cost is determined after initial Free Evaluation.

 Why Bother Training Anyway??

Common myths that prevent dogs from being the best they can be:

My puppy will grow out of the behavior on it's own...

Actually... he won't, what ever it is that he is doing that you do not like, he will continue to do until you teach him to stop. If he jumps up on you now at 10 lbs, and you neglect to teach him that  jumping  up on you is unacceptable, he will jump up on you when he is 80 lbs too, but it won't be so cute then. You may not mind him jumping on you, but what about your children, or grandchildren,  parents or other people and their children. It's the same with any undesirable behavior, leash pulling, chewing, or nipping (mouthing or biting) at your face or hands.

There is great Responsibility involved in dog ownership and part of  YOUR responsibility to your dog is to teach him proper social skills, so that he can be a joy to you as well as others and so that he can be fulfilled as a companion also.

My dog is TOO OLD to train now...

"You can't teach an old dog new tricks" is a false statement. Actually, training can revitalize your "old dog", bring new purpose, energy and it is good for his mental and physical health. Dogs live in the now, therefore now is the time to give your "old dog" a  new trick and add some new life to his "old age". He may surprise you!

He's my baby, I want him to be happy, I can't tell him no..

Actually he is not your Baby, he is not of your species and therefore doesn't understand your long conversations in cutesy baby talk at all. But if you REALLY want him to be happy, you will give him the training he needs to be happy that will get him lots of hugs, kisses and praise instead of sensing people's frustration when they're around him which causes him to have anxiety and stress. By teaching him how to obey a simple No command you can prevent an injury. You could save his life by training him to Come on command EVERY time. Teaching him how to  behave correctly around people can get him lots of pats on the head and "good boys" from your friends too.

My dog is not aggressive, he is a guard dog.. or.. he'll calm down after your here a while... or.. he'll let you in, but don't try to leave.. or.. he just nips a little, he would never really hurt anyone..

Yeah, Right! Real Guard Dogs are actually professionally trained for their job and their behavior is always controlled, just because your dog is mean, does not make it a guard dog. Often times people make excuses for their dog's aggressive behavior because they don't want to feel out of control. There is a cause behind your dog's behavior and denying it is not going to help him at all! Determining the cause of your dog's aggressive behavior is the only way to help him move past it and become a content and healthy companion. A dog who has shown any signs of aggression toward a person, is ALWAYS a biting risk.

NEVER LEAVE A CHILD ALONE WITH A DOG WHO HAS AGGRESSED...EVER!

But Training is So Expensive, I can't afford it...

Training is every bit as much your responsibility as a dog owner as food, water, and veterinary care. If you think about how much you spend on those things in a year and then compare it to the cost of Training you may think differently. Training is not just for your dog, it is for you and your whole family and it is not just for today,  it's for the lifetime of your companion. Learning how to communicate in the canine language is key to your dog being able to communicate with you.  You would not move to a foreign country without learning the language of the people you will need to communicate with, you would at least learn the basic words necessary to be understood, to be safe, to get what you need. That is the Basic Obedience course offered below, it is the Basic communication skills necessary for you and your dog to begin to understand each other, to keep your dog safe and to provide what it needs beyond food and water.

Training takes so much time, I don't have time for it, I am too busy...

In the amount of time it takes for you to walk your dog and take it outside to go potty, you can be effectively training your dog.   For less time than it takes to watch a movie, you can be effectively training your dog, in fact it will likely take you less time to train your dog than it would to go to the doctor, the vet, to get your hair done, or attend   parent teacher conferences.  Training can be incorporated into your existing daily routine. The benefit will last a LIFETIME!

BUT if you really do not have time, we have a class for that too! It is called D. F. Y. that stands for "Done For You".    Whether it is Crate Training, Basic Obedience or Behavioral Modification (some exceptions  in regard to aggression) we can train your dog and then train you to communicate with your dog in the manner required to achieve the desired behavior we have taught your dog.  Yes, you will be without your dog for several weeks, and the cost is significant (as we are doing all the work) but still not as steep as if we charged separately for the boarding and the training. Obviously this training is easier the younger the dog begins, but we have had great success with older dogs as well.
